Brief Description

Fehily Timoney Gifford acted as designer of the tolling infrastructure for the Rathcormac/Fermoy Bypass, a new 17.5km off-line dual two-lane motorway which became the M8 on completion. This Design, Build, Finance and Operate contract began in May 2004 and the road was opened in October 2006.

The tolling infrastructure comprises the design of all infrastructure for the mainline toll plaza and two satellite toll plazas. Facilities designed for these plazas by Fehily Timoney Gifford include three landmark canopy structures spanning carriageways, a service/access underpass, an administration building and 14 toll booths. Our scope also included architectural design, mechanical and electrical utilities and other infrastructure design aspects such as a car park, traffic signs and road markings.

FTG carried out the detailed design for the scheme in accordance with the NRA DMRB, the NRA Specification for Roads and Bridgeworks and the Irish Building Regulations 2000.
