Brief Description
The N11 Gorey to Arklow Link forms part of the Dublin to Wexford National Primary Route (N11). It covers the section of the N11 from the end of the N11 Arklow Bypass in the townland of Hollyfort to the southern tie-in in the townland of Ballinclare approximately 2km south of the village of Clogh. The road traverses 23km of rural countryside to the east and south of the existing N11. This Design and Build contract scheme, which provided a dual carriageway bypass of Gorey Town, Inch and Clogh villages, was awarded in August 2005 and opened in September 2007.
Fehily Timoney Gifford was commissioned to provide tender design for 23km of standard dual carriageway and 2.7km of single carriageway including 17 road bridges, two railway bridges, modifications to an existing rail bridge, four watercourse crossings and 11 underpasses. The scheme also includes approximately 6km of access roads.
Notable Features
Railway Underbridges
Fehily Timoney Gifford undertook conceptual and detailed designs for the Coolnastud Railway underbridge and the New Arklow Link railway underbridge. Both of these are single-span and carry the new N11 over the Dublin to Rosslare railway line.
River Bridges
All single-span arched culvert structures, the crossings include two bridges over the Banogue River, one over the Inch River and another over the Clonough River. Fehily Timoney Gifford provided preliminary and detailed designs for these structures.
Roads
Fehily Timoney Gifford carried out a complete conceptual and detailed design of the Gorey to Arklow Link Scheme as part of a tender package for this Design and Build Contract. Our design included alignment, earthworks, surface water drainage, land drainage (including over 20 culverts), public lighting, traffic signs and road markings, landscaping, environmental design and environmental mitigation measures.
